Learning, Development & Improvement
With over 35 years of experience working with children and families and delivering childcare, CALA also offers extensive Learning, Development and Improvement services.
Our Learning and Development Team
#TEAMCALA brings together a diverse team of practitioners with extensive experience of working with children and families, many of whom also hold qualifications in adult learning. Several of our practitioners are highly experienced trainers, delivering a wide range of programmes focused on children’s development, learning, and childcare.
Alongside their current delivery experience, our tutors contribute valuable insight from their involvement in local and national working groups. They work closely with providers, practitioners, and local authority colleagues to ensure that our course content reflects current priorities and effectively supports the learning needs of everyone working with, and for, children and families.

Our services
Tailored courses
We can create bespoke learning and development days or half days to meet your needs. A key aim of our work is to increase practitioners knowledge, confidence and reflective practice to enable them to meet the National Standard for ELC through continuous improvement, keeping children and families at that heart of all that we do.
Face to face delivery
Our comprehensive learning and development menu gives a summary outline of our available full and half-day courses.
If you would like further detail, just call (01463 222569) and our office will put you in touch with one of our team.
Virtual online learning sessions
Our tutor facilitated online learning sessions are an ideal halfway between e-learning and face to face. A convenient way for practitioners to learn through interactive presentation and discussion with no travel involved – our tutors come to you virtually!

“I found this course easy to use, flexible around my schedule as a busy Mum as I could start it and stop it as needed, and full of really useful information.”
“I really enjoyed this course on supporting children’s behaviour – it kept me engaged and was really practical, and I could immediately apply what I learned in my work”.
“This ‘Think You Know Neglect’ course has really deepened my understanding and gave me greater confidence to recognise and respond to neglect in practice.”
Thanks to the generous support of our funding partners, many of our e-modules are available free of charge, with others offered at a minimal cost through funding from the Scottish Government’s CYPFEIF and ALEC Fund.
With almost 14000 registered users and over 16500modules accessed in the past year alone, our e-Learning Zone continues to grow in popularity, supporting practitioners and providers with accessible, high-quality learning they can trust.
